The Friend
Director: Dito Tsintsadze
„The Friend“ tells the story of Nino, a young immigrant from Georgia who lives with her son, Luca, in Berlin. Luca’s father abandons them while Nino’s family in Georgia don´t want any contact with her because the father of her son is black, as is Luca. Alone and far from home, poorly educated and unemployed, and with little future perspective, Nino searches for answers in the works of the Marquise de Sade.
After losing a job as a waitress she walks through the parks of Berlin and meets a mysterious Frenchman who listens to her and seems to be the only person who really understands her situation.
This extraordinary arthouse film directed by Dito Tsintsadze was filmed without a script and without a budget. The result is a delicate and emotional perception of a young woman who tries to do the right thing and ends up doing something that society condemns.
